WINNIPEG — For shelters like Siloam Mission, a drop in temperatures almost always means an increase in clients.

“We usually serve 500 meals during one seating, we were up to 625 over the weekend which tells me people just want to be warm,” Al Foster, one of the staff members said.

After the harsh temperatures over the weekend the shelter is in desperate need of items like gloves, winter boots and long johns.

“When it gets this cold, and you’re out on the street, that extra layer is really critical,” Foster said.

The staff also said that typically the number of donations decrease after the holidays. Winnipeggers interested in making a donation can stop by the location at 300 Princess St. between 8:30 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday.
