LAVAL – The Habs took their practice outside Monday to unveil the Montreal Canadiens Foundation’s seventh refrigerated community rink.
“Hundreds, if not thousands of kids are going to come here to skate, some for the first time,” said Geoff Molson, the team’s owner.
“It’s a great gift to a great community.”
The team practiced at the new Blue Blanc Bouge rink in Parc Émile in Laval.
The Habs don’t usually play outside – but they did prove they can, beating the Boston Bruins 5-1 at the outdoor NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on New Year’s Day.
“To be a part of it and come out here and withstand the cold an hour or so is very easy for us,” said defenceman P.K. Subban.
Forty lucky elementary school kids were invited to practice with the pros on the new rink.

“A lot of kids are going to grow up and have a lot of memories for when they get older,” said right-winger Brendan Gallagher.
The Canadiens next game is on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks
