SASKATOON – A search of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon has ended. Police say they received two phone calls around 9 a.m. CT Monday that a woman had entered the icy waters from the Broadway Bridge.

Members of the Saskatoon Fire Department water rescue team, the Saskatoon police air support unit and patrol officers and MD Ambulance attended the scene for a search of the river, weir and shoreline.

Police were able to bring one of the 911 callers back to the scene to confirm the exact location where they saw the person fall from the bridge.

Based on information provided by the witness, rescue crews used sonar equipment to scan the river bottom for anomalies from the Broadway Bridge to the north side of the University Bridge.

The search and sonar results did not turn up any sign to warrant putting divers in the river.

Fire department officials said the search will not resume unless further evidence is provided.
