There was no better way to say goodbye to a music legend than an afternoon of song.
The Dal Richards Orchestra played for a full house of Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Vancouver today, as 750 gathered for a memorial honouring Vancouver’s ‘King of Swing’.
Richards played 79 straight consecutive shows on New Year’s Eve before dying on the same day last month at the age of 97.

The legendary bandleader has been honoured many times for his music and achievements and is a recipient of the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and was the first inductee into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.
