Air Canada passenger flight makes emergency landing in Halifax

HALIFAX – An Air Canada plane has made an emergency landing at Halifax’s Stanfield International Airport.

Airport spokesman Peter Spurway says initial reports indicate that the pilot of Flight 623 reported smoke in the cockpit.

He says the Toronto-bound flight had just taken off from Halifax when the pilot reported the trouble.

There were no immediate details on the craft’s condition or how many people were on board the plane, which is believed to be an Embraer 190 regional jet.

Air Canada did not immediately respond to emails on the situation.
