Saskatchewan may have had the highest number of certified organic operations in the country, but those numbers are falling.
Statistics Canada’s 2011 agriculture census shows a decline of 14.6 per cent in the province’s organic operations since 2006.

More than 1,100 operations have ended, left the province or turned back to conventional farming.
Issues organic farmers are facing include financial pressure, competition for international and conventional markets, and the nature of the industry.
Saskatchewan farmers have had it extra hard because of the extremely wet weather for the last couple of years.
