Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn’t even been in theatres for three weeks yet, but it just surpassed Avatar box-office sales to become the No. 1 movie of all time in North America.

As of this writing, The Force Awakens‘ domestic total gross is $758.2 million, and will overtake Avatar‘s previous record of $760.5 million by end-of-day.

The J.J. Abrams-directed sci-fi-fantasy blockbuster achieved this historic movie milestone in a mere 20 days. While it has quite a way to go before it beats Avatar’s global grossing record of $2.78 billion, it has easily surpassed Avatar‘s North American intake (not accounting for inflation).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, many box-office experts predict The Force Awakens will ultimately make $2.2 billion — $2.4 billion globally, which would defeat James Cameron’s Titanic (which made $2.19 billion) to become the No. 2 film of all time. Industry insiders aren’t certain that the latest Star Wars movie will eclipse Avatar on a global scale.
