Google’s gilded logo honours archaeologist Howard Carter

TORONTO – Search giant Google celebrates the birthday of one of the primary discoverers of King Tutankhamun’s tomb with a gilded logo on its homepage.

Born on May 9, 1874 in London, English archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter searched the ancient burial sites of pharaohs for decades. On November 4, 1922, Carter and his excavation group found steps leading to Tutankhamun’s nearly intact tomb.

The Google doodle shows Carter standing in front of his ancient artifact findings, including Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Carter retired from archaeology following his discovery and died of lymphoma on March 2, 1939 in Kensington London at the age of 64.
