It took only 39 seconds after midnight for Toronto’s first baby in 2016 to be born.
Baby boy Julian was born at North York General Hospital via an unscheduled c-section.
He was delivered weighing 8 pounds and 11 ounces.
Health authorities said both mother and baby are doing well.
The first recorded natural birth in Toronto for 2016 happened at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Baby girl Kolpona Mookerjea was born at 12:05 a.m. ET. and came it at 5 pounds.
This is the first child for mother Aparna and father Debanjan.
“Our background is Bengali. Kolpona in Bengali means ‘the imagined or the created,'” said Aparna.
“Everyone was expecting her to be born way, way later. It wasn’t until there were 25 people in the room going ‘New Year’s baby’ that we realized she was the first baby at Mount Sinai to be a New Year’s baby.”
Kolpona’s father said the couple has been overwhelmed by the experience but it relishing the opportunity to raise their first-born.
“She’s very calm so far. Just kind of opens her eyes one and a while and takes it all in and looks around,” he said.
