Car fire in Penticton

PENTICTON — Penticton fire crews responded to a vehicle fire on Martin Street on Monday afternoon.

The Penticton Fire Department received a call about a car fire shortly before 1 p.m. When they got to the corner of Martin Street and Wade Avenue they saw an older Honda Civic on fire.

“There was heavy dark smoke coming from the engine compartment so we were able to stretch out a hose line and extinguish the fire,” says Captain Ken Younghusband.

He says the driver of the vehicle noticed the engine was making strange sounds so he decided to pull over. Soon after, smoke starting come out from the hood of the vehicle.

Younghusband says as a precaution, the section of Martin Street was closed off for about 15 minutes while crews worked to contain the fire.

No one was injured in the incident. There is significant damage to the vehicle.
