Police investigate Carrefour Laval Birks robbery

LAVAL – Police in Laval are looking for a man who robbed a Birks Jewellery store Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, a white male, reportedly walked into Carrefour Laval around 12 p.m. with a hammer.

“He didn’t speak to anybody,” said Franco Di Genova with Laval police.

Authorities estimate thousands of dollars of merchandise were taken.

“He stole watches and jewellery, but we don’t know what type of jewellery – bracelets, rings, diamonds,” said Di Genova.

“The inventory is being done now.”

Officers are on the scene to speak with numerous witnesses.

One witness had said they heard gunshots, but Di Genova insisted no shots were fired and they probably heard the sound of glass smashing.

“The suspect stayed in the store for a few minutes and left,” he explained, adding Birks does have a security guard, but it’s not sure if they confronted the suspect.

Police have yet to release a full description of the suspect.
