TORONTO – Two people are dead and another was taken to hospital following a four-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Oakville on Tuesday evening.
Ontario Provincial Police say two trucks, a SUV and a car were involved in the crash in the Toronto-bound lanes of the highway near Trafalgar Road around 9 p.m.
Police say the SUV was sandwiched between the two trucks and one of them caught on fire.

“With two commercial motor vehicles, you’re never quite sure what they might be loaded with and they obviously carry a substantial amount of fuel on board compared to a regular vehicle,” said OPP Const. Tracey Lacarte.
It’s not known what caused the crash, but police say the investigation is ongoing.

The eastbound lanes of the highway at the crash site will remain closed until at least 3 p.m. after crews found damage to the roadway.
“The morning commute will likely be impacted. So we’re hoping that people can make alternative routes, arrangements, perhaps transit to help facilitate the congestion in the Halton area,” said Lacarte.
Police have not yet released the name or age of the victims.
