Police crack down on unsafe winter driving

REGINA – November was a busy month for police who issued 190 tickets for winter driving offences.

Throughout Saskatchewan, police gave out 41 tickets for driving at a speed greater than reasonable and safe, and 15 tickets for driving with an obstructed windshield or window.

There were also 134 tickets for exceeding 60 kilometres per hour when passing emergency vehicles, highway equipment, and tow trucks when lights are flashing.

Saskatchewan drivers also got 4,517 tickets for speeding/aggressive driving, 354 seatbelt tickets, 296 offences for impaired driving and 382 tickets for distracted driving. 301 of the distracted driving tickets were for cell phone use.

December’s focus is impaired driving, so police will be on the lookout for drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

SGI recommends using different options to get home, including a designated driver, taxi, transit, or a designated driving service such as Operation Red Nose.

Regina Transit and SGI also offer Ding in the New Year – free transit service on New Year’s Eve.
