SAINT-CUTHBERT, Que. – At least three people are dead following a head-on collision on Highway 138 in Saint-Cuthbert in the Lanaudière region late Saturday night.
Police say a young woman driving alone in the eastbound direction, veered into oncoming traffic at 11:15 p.m., crashing into a SUV.
The SUV rolled over and landed in a water-logged ditch by the side of the road.
Two of the four occupants of the SUV, men in the front seat, died in the collision, as did the young driver of the car.
The two other passengers in the SUV suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.
The highway remained closed for several hours as investigators and collision experts analyzed the scene.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson, Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, said that it was too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
