Snowfall warning issued for areas northwest of Edmonton

EDMONTON — Areas northwest of Edmonton could see upwards of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow by Friday evening.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, Edson and Hinton areas Thursday afternoon.

Global Edmonton’s Chief Meteorologist Jesse Beyer said snowfall will likely be paired with up to 50 km/h wind gusts. Factoring in the wind chill, it could feel like -30 across central Alberta Friday morning.

Edmonton will likely see about five centimetres of snow out of the system. Gusty winds are also expected in the Edmonton area, which will likely cause blowing snow and poor driving conditions.

With the snowfall warning in place, motorists are advised to use caution on the roads.
