Operation Streetsweep underway in Saskatoon

Saskatoon police have started their own street sweeping, one of a different kind.

Operation Streetsweep focuses on the safety and fitness of all types of vehicles.

Over the next few days, traffic members will be looking at the condition of lighting, brakes, steering components, tires, glass and anything else that might make a vehicle unsafe.

If a vehicle is found to be in need of repairs, the driver is given a warning and a fixed timeframe to make those repairs.

In an extreme case, the vehicle will be pulled off the road.

Police will also be cracking down on speeders in school zones and drivers still using hand-held devices such as cell phones and those not buckling up.
