LEDUC, Alta. – Dasan Sydora turned aside all 29 shots he faced as the Red Deer Rebels blanked the Saskatoon Contacts 2-0 on Saturday in Telus Cup semifinal action.
Sydora’s performance earned him Red Deer’s player of the game honours while Brady Bakke’s goal 1:10 into the second period stood up as the eventual winner.
Scott Ferguson added an insurance goal at 18:42 of the third for the Rebels and Nick Glackin picked up an assist on both of his club’s goals.
Mack Shields stopped 30 shots in defeat for the Contacts.

Neither club could score with the power play as Red Deer went 0 for 4 and Saskatoon 0 for 6.
In the other semi-final match-up, David Storto had two goals and two assists as the Phenix du College Esther-Blondin crushed the Leduc Oil Kings 8-2.
Vincent Deslauriers scored twice for the Phenix, Laurent Dauphin had a goal and three assists, Daniel Audette had a goal and two assists and Kevin Deslauriers and David Bergeron had a goal and an assist each.
Dauphin, who earned the most valuable player award on Friday, now has 17 points in six games to lead the tournament in scoring.
Jody Sick and Robert Cain scored for the Oil Kings.
Kevin Darveau made 30 saves for the win while Brett Zarowny turned away 18 shots in a losing effort.
The Phenix went 3 for 6 on the power play as Leduc failed to score on seven chances with the extra man.
Red Deer and the Phenix will meet on Sunday in the Telus Cup gold medal game while Saskatoon and Leduc will play each other for the bronze.
The Rebels and Phenix battled to a 2-2 draw in their preliminary-round match-up.
