Taxi driver assaulted in Saint-Michel

MONTREAL – A 63-year-old taxi driver is in hospital after being assaulted in Montreal’s Saint-Michel borough.

The incident happened at 1 a.m. Thursday morning after he picked up a passenger.

“The suspect tried to assault the driver with a sharp object,” said André Leclerc with Montreal police.

“The driver managed to push back and the suspect ran away with an injury to one hand.”

The suspect is an Asian man in his 30s, 5″7, 120 lb; he was wearing a dark jacket.

The cabbie suffered an injury to his hand and was taken to hospital.

Officers are on the scene to gather information in order to identify the suspect.
