EDMONTON – Public transit users will now have something to keep them entertained while waiting at any of the 15 LRT stations along the main Capital Line. Free, public, Open City Wi-Fi has been set up at all LRT stations.
“We promised that all stations along the Capital Line would be Wi-Fi ready by the end of the year,” Musse Dese, with city Customer Service and Innovation, said. “Open City Wi-Fi allows our customers to stay connected and be productive while using the LRT.”
The city is using its own fibre to provide the service.

The city plans to keep expanding the Open City Wi-Fi network in the coming year, starting with the Metro LRT stations.
Last winter, a report to Edmonton’s transportation committee outlined the possibility of expanding Wi-Fi and cellphone coverage along the entire LRT route, including stations and tunnels.
A spokesperson for the Office of the City Manager said the city is negotiating agreements with a vendor to start the design and development of the wireless network inside the trains and tunnels, but there is no timeline at this point.
