OLIVER — A frustrated potential purchaser of a south Okanagan ski resort says striking a deal with the Receiver has been an uphill battle.

Fred Johnston, the director of Baldy Capital Corporation (BCC), says efforts to open Mount Baldy for the 2015/2016 ski season will not happen after a “window of opportunity” has closed.

G-Force Group was appointed Receiver-Manager of Mount Baldy by the B.C. Supreme Court on Dec 19, 2014, to find a suitable purchaser for the ski hill.

“Unfortunately, [BCC] has been unable to follow up with an acceptable offer to acquire the assets or provide for an acceptable plan to operate the resort for this season,” says G-Force group in a press release.

The group writes it has pursued “several other interested parties,” but Johnston says he is suspicious of their existence.

Johnston was scheduled to go to court on Friday to opposite G-Force Group’s application for an approval of a Letter of Intent from a new purchaser.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“(Wednesday afternoon,) the phantom purchaser has now withdrawn the letter of intent,” says Johnston. “If there was one, they have now gone away.”

Johnston says he still intends on purchasing Mount Baldy and believes the community is disappointed the resort is closed for another season.

“We plan to proceed with the purchase as quickly as possible. We think enough time has been wasted.”
