Incredible video shows the moment a Kentucky officer’s cruiser made contact with a deer, sending the animal flying over the vehicle’s hood and scurrying off into the woods.
The incident, which happened over the American Thanksgiving long weekend, was caught on Officer Pittaluga’s dash cam and was released on Tuesday.
The deer seems to be OK, and as for the cruiser: well, it got off lucky.
Global News reached out to the Kenton County Police Department about the incident but they declined to comment.
In a Facebook post, the Kenton police had a little fun with the dramatic encounter, writing the deer was obviously “performing a Triple Axel.” But just to be safe, the department called “Santa just to be sure this deer didn’t belong to him” since the large animal can be seen “flying” for a split second, like one popular red-nosed reindeer.
According to Kenton County, the deer was not one of Santa’s.
The release of the footage, however, was to bring on a more serious message of how to react when an incident involving an animal on the road occurs. In the example with Officer Pittaluga and the deer, the police department said Pittaluga “applied his brakes and steered away from the deer in a controlled manner.”
It’s still not known if the Kenton County Police Department will make Santa’s naughty or nice list this year.
