YVR officials offer security tips to help passengers during busy travel season

Dec. 1 marks the beginning of a very busy travel month, which is why officials at Vancouver Airport want to remind travellers about items people can and cannot take with them, and how to make the process of going through security faster for everyone.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is asking passengers to know the steps they need to take so they can go through security check more quickly.

Here are some of the important things travellers should remember:

  • Small carry-on bags and purses should be put on a tray
  • All liquids should be placed in a small clear bag and placed outside your bag
  • Remember to take out your laptop and put it on a separate tray without anything on top or below it
    • Tablets, cameras, iPods, and all other electronics can stay inside your carry-on
  • Don’t forget to empty your pockets, anything like a cell phone, car keys, and loose change can be put inside your carry-on until you pass through
  • Take off your jacket and put it in the bin
  • Shoes only have to be taken off if you are travelling to the U.S., however, if your shoes have metal you should take them off as a precaution
  • Have your boarding pass ready to present it to the screening officer

Officials say the number one mistake people still make is carrying large liquids, so don’t forget to only take travel-size creams and gels, nothing above 100 ml.
