WINNIPEG – This past season’s top Canadian university defensive football player has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Linebacker John Rush joins the CFL club after racking up 68.5 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery with the Guelph Gryphons in 2015. His performance earned him the CIS Presidents’ Trophy making him the first Gryphon to win the award since Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea in 1992.
Winnipeg has also added national kicker Billy Pavlopoulos to its roster. The Georgetown, Ontario born was selected by the Bombers 54th overall in the 2013 CFL Draft. Pavlopoulous averaged 43-yards per punt in 2011, the second best average in the country.
