Calgary man shot by police in 2010 found guilty

A Calgary man has been found guilty of using a stolen vehicle as a weapon in an incident with police two years ago.

Louis Bear was driving erratically through the city in September of 2012, before he pulled into a parking lot in Bridgeland where he was surrounded by police.

Bear accelerated towards the officers, at which point they fired shots at him. He was taken to hospital and treated for the injuries he received.

Now, a judge has found him guilty of a string of offences, including dangerous driving and using his vehicle as a weapon.

Bear was acquitted on the more serious charge of attempted murder, but could still face a lengthy jail term.

He has a long history with police, and now the question will be whether or not he should be locked up indefinitely.

On August 4th 2007, Bear was driving a stolen car and fleeing from police when he drove over two men outside of the Whisky nightclub.

Brian Suh and his friend Grant Liu were killed when they were struck from behind at a high rate of speed.

The Crown will now consider whether Bear could be declared a dangerous offender.

Bear was under a ten-year driving ban when the September 2010 incident happened with police.
