Centre of Gravity imposes age restriction

KELOWNA — Kelowna’s biggest festival is coming back on a new date and with age restrictions.

Centre of Gravity used to take place on the B.C. Day Long Weekend, but two years ago, it was moved to the last weekend of July.

Organizers say the festival will be returning for a ninth year and will be held on the weekend of July 8-10.

“We decided to move earlier in the summer cause we want the festival to act as the kick off to the summer festival season. We also feel that the new date will work better for a number of our pro athletes and our headlining artists,” says organizer Scott Emslie.

They say another big change will be limiting who can party in the so-called concert bowl.

Organizers say they’re imposing an age restriction of 16-plus.

“We have decided that the environment within the Concert Bowl and at Main Stage is most suitable for an audience that is at least of 16 years of age. The Sports Pass is still all ages and includes lot of great attractions for the younger crowd,” says Emslie.

Tickets for the three-day event are selling for $170, plus tax and service fees.
