EDMONTON — An epic tilt between the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders is less than 24 hours away.
On Sunday afternoon, the two Alberta teams will battle it out to see which one advances to the Grey Cup.
Ahead of Sunday’s game, Global Edmonton’s Kevin Karius went one-on-one with QB Mike Reilly after Saturday’s practice at Commonwealth Stadium.
“This one’s tough for me,” Reilly said. “That might just be because I’m in it right now but this is the most excited that I’ve been.”
“We’re hosting the West Final, we’re playing against Calgary. Never mind that they won the Grey Cup last year and they ended our season last year, but just with the battle of Alberta and the rivalry between us Calgary, to play them at our place in a big game, it doesn’t get better than that.”
Reilly said it’s important to come out and set the tone of the game early.
“It’s the West Final, nothing’s going to come easy,” he said, “but we want to come out and make sure that they know they’re on our home field and they’re playing in front of our crowd.”
Reilly, and the rest of the team, wants football fans to come out and support the team in Sunday’s West Final. It’s been a decade since the Eskimos have advanced to the Grey Cup and the team is doing everything it can to rally the fan base.
“You can feel it around town, for sure. I know people are excited for this game,” Reilly said.
“We’re excited to play that game in front of our crowd and we know they’re excited.”
