Sask. police hand out nearly 450 tickets for distracted driving

REGINA – In the month of October police throughout Saskatchewan handed out 445 tickets to distracted drivers.

During that month police were doing a province-wide traffic safety spotlight on distracted driving and handed out the following tickets:

  • 246 tickets for using a cellphone while driving
  • 151 tickets for driving without due care and attention
  • 21 tickets for driving a vehicle without reasonable consideration for others
  • 17 tickets for performing an activity to distract, startle or interfere
  • 6 tickets for stunting
  • 3 tickets for causing a loud unnecessary noise with a motor vehicle
  • 1 ticket for racing

In addition to the above tickets officers issued 6,576 speeding tickets, 432 tickets for failing to wear a seatbelt and/or have a child restrained in the appropriate car/booster seat and 373 impaired driving charges.

For November SGI’s safety focus will be on safe winter driving and police will continue to keep an eye out for people driving too fast for the road conditions.
