UPDATE – The police investigation into this crash has found evidence of illegal drug dealing.
Revelstoke RCMP S/Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky says about 160 pounds of marijuana was found hidden in the tractor unit of the eastbound transport truck being driven by the Montreal man.
UPDATE – DriveBC is reporting the police investigation into the crash has been completed and the scene is being cleaned up.
The estimated time of reopening the eastbound lanes is 4:30 p.m.
Westbound traffic should begin flowing again about an hour later.
A travel advisory is in effect for much of the TransCanada east of Revelstoke to the Alberta border with heavy snowfall and mild temperatures creating very slippery driving conditions.
REVELSTOKE – The TransCanada highway is closed in both directions about 35 kilometres east of Revelstoke because of a crash.
It is expected to reopen at about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say two, large transport trucks collided head-on at about 6:00 a.m.
One of the drivers, a man from Montreal, was killed and two other people are seriously injured.
RCMP say one of the injured is to be air-lifted to hospital but the medi-vac helicopter is grounded in Sicamous because of low cloud.
Snowy, slippery road conditions likely contributed to the crash.
