SASKATOON – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Saskatoon, Regina, central and southern Saskatchewan stating, “Winter is coming.” The agency says an intense low pressure system with a strong cold front will sweep across Saskatchewan Wednesday bringing an abrupt end to the mild November weather.
Behind the cold front temperatures will plummet to normal for this time of year with overnight lows in the minus double digits. Alongside the falling temperatures, blustery northwesterly winds are also expected.
Central and eastern portions of the province will experience the strongest winds with 60 kilometres per hour gusting to in excess of 90 km/h.
Winds are expected to begin diminishing on Thursday.
Heavy snow and a risk of freezing rain will be present from Meadow Lake eastward to Pelican Narrows.
Falling snow and strong winds will reduce visibility at times.

According to Global News’ models, much of the snow may dodge Saskatoon; however, the city will be dealing with potentially warning-level wind gusts of upwards of 90 km/h Wednesday. A wind warning is required when wind gusts exceed 90 km/h.
This system will definitely bring our first dose of arctic air to the area that will settle in for the rest of the week with wind chill values in excess of -20 by the end of the week.
