KELOWNA – The latest figures show more people are working across the country and the province, but in Kelowna, the graph is trending the other direction.
Statistics Canada reports Canada’s labour force jumped by 44,400 net jobs in October due to an increase in temporary public-administration work associated with the federal election.
That pushed the unemployment rate down one-tenth of a percentage point to seven per cent.
British Columbia added jobs in October as did Manitoba, Ontario and New Brunswick.
However, the situation is not so good in Kelowna which is the only Okanagan city where Statistics Canada generates job numbers.
The unemployment rate has increased steadily from 4.5 per cent in June to 7.2 per cent in October.
