KELOWNA, B.C. – Local men in the Okanagan are making a difference with a relatively new men’s group that is helping local charities in the valley.
The group ‘100 Men Who Give a Damn’ is a cohort of men who want to give back to their community, but have limited time.
The idea started in London, Ontario in 2013. Since then, 23 more groups have started up in the country, including one right here in Kelowna.

“You’ve always got to have time for charity… it’s important for the community,” said one member of the group. “This is a great event.”
It started with a desire to obtain 100 members, but the group now has more than 300.
The group meets four times a year and each member makes a quarterly donation of $100. Then the group decides which of the three charities should benefit from the money – this quarter, it was a total of over $25,000. The Clubhouse Child Care Centre took the grand prize yesterday.
“I was so surprised,” said Manager Audrey Hystad. “It’s so hard to do these things because every organization you’re up against is so valuable for the community in so many ways.”
The group is growing, but organizers say there is no cap on how many people can join. They will meet again on Feb. 3 to choose another recipient for their next donation.
