One of our city’s festive and generous initiatives is returning for another year.
Hundreds of energetic and happy students gathered Wednesday at Nicholas Sheran Community school to help kick off the annual Angel Tree for Kids campaign put on by Lethbridge Family Services.
The goal of the program is to help less fortunate southern Alberta children to have a brighter Christmas through the joy of receiving a gift on Christmas morning.

Individuals and businesses are encouraged to visit a 1st Choice Savings branch and pick an angel off the Christmas tree. Each angel has the age and gender of a child which a present can be purchased for.
“It’s really great for the less fortunate guys out there and it’s great for our students who have much to give,” said Heather Hadford, principal at Nicholas Sheran Community School.
“It’s a good lesson for them, good practice for them to get into, to be thinking about other people. Also to recognize that they have lots of gifts in their lives whatever those might be, and that others may not.”
Last year the Angel Tree for Kids campaign helped over 1,600 children, which calculated to over $100,000 worth of donations.
