FALL RIVER, N.S. – The controversial Fall River quarry will not go ahead, as the approval for the operation has been revoked.
In a release sent out on Tuesday afternoon, Environment Minister Andrew Younger said he is revoking the approval for Scotian Materials to develop the quarry, effective immediately.
The quarry was planned for less than four hectares of land on Perrin Drive near Fall River.
In September, the government granted Scotian Materiels the permission to develop the quarry. They were given approval on the terms and conditions that they would ensure the environment and public health are protected.
Several people in the community were outraged by the proposed development.

The statement says Younger found a lack of sufficient public consultation before the government’s decision to approve the project.
Younger has 60 days to review the remaining appeals.
