Masked gunman flees after armed carjacking in Skyview Ranch

CALGARY – Police are investigating a violent carjacking in the community of Skyview Ranch on Tuesday that left the victim extremely shaken.

It happened in the 300 block of Skyview Ranch Road N.E. just after 7 a.m.

Police said the victim, a woman in her mid 20s, was opening her detached garage where her vehicle was started when she was approached by a man wearing a mask and holding what appeared to be a handgun. She said the man put the gun in her face and took her car.

Police said no shots were fired and that the woman wasn’t injured.

The victim, who didn’t wish to be identified, told Global News she had just moved into the neighbourhood a month ago. She expressed concern the suspect may have been watching her, as the attack happened on the only day of the week that she doesn’t leave for work at the same time as her common-law boyfriend.

Officers described the suspect as a man about six feet tall with a slim build, wearing a black jacket and a black mask that covered his face.

The stolen vehicle was a silver two-door 2012 Honda Civic with Alberta plate BLX 8558.

On Wednesday, investigators were called to a home in the 200 block of Pinewind Road N.E. by a woman who believed it had been left in her yard.

Investigators said that judging by the licence plate on the car, it did appear to be the one that was stolen.
