TORONTO – In Ontario, the need for organ and tissue donation consistently outweighs the availability.
Currently there are more than 1,500 men, women and children in Ontario waiting for life-saving or life-enhancing organ transplants.
Every three days, in Ontario, someone waiting dies because there is no available organ.
Research shows us that more than 90% of Ontarians are in favour of organ donation.
However, only 19% of Ontarians over the age of 16 had registered their consent for organ and tissue donation as of March 31, 2011.
Below is a quick fact sheet about organ and tissue donation in Ontario as provided by the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
