Police warn the public after Ontario boy, 13, finds razor blade inside candy bar

TORONTO — Police are warning parents to be extra vigilant after a 13-year-old boy in Thorold, Ont. says he found a razor blade lodged in a Kit Kat chocolate bar on Halloween.

Jack Cadieux said he had gotten tired of trick-or-treating so he asked his father to pick him up, which is when he started tearing into his candy.

“So I open it up and I go over and I take a bite out of it, I feel something metal so I pull it out a bit and I look down and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I found a razor blade in my Kit Kat bar,'” the 13-year-old said.

“I didn’t think that was true, I thought was some kind of myth that people made up to scare kids to make sure they check their candy.”

Cadieux said the blade looked like a disposable razor blade and he quickly posted the discovery on Facebook.

“People were just saying, ‘Call the police, call the police!’ So my mom ended up calling the police and the whole next day we spent talking to the police about it,” he said.

“They ended up taking it to a forensic lab to get it checked out. I haven’t heard back from them. The thing that scares me the most about it is if the guy was wearing some kind of surgical gloves so they couldn’t trace back to it.”

Cadieux wasn’t injured and the razor blade did not enter his mouth.

Upon further inspection, Niagara Police said the packaging may have been tampered with.

A second razor blade was discovered in a child’s O’Henry chocolate bar in Niagara Falls, after a child had gone trick-or-treating in the north end of St. Catharines.

Police are asking anyone with similar experiences with their candy to come forward.
