“Chillin’ 4 Charity” raises cold, hard cash

LETHBRIDGE – Maybe it’s because the city has yet to see snow this winter, but for some Lethbridge residents, it certainly is not cold enough outside.

After spending October raising funds for the United Way, members of the JDC West Business Team jumped into an above-ground pool at Galt Gardens – filled with freezing water.  Thankfully, there was also a hot tub nearby to balance out the temperature shock.

For those making the icy plunge, the end goal outweighed the chilly temperatures.

“The biggest thing for me, I think, is a huge opportunity is to see your whole team and to see the community come together and just really feel like you’re part of a team,” said Christian Blott with the JDC West international business team. “You’re doing it together, you’re raising money together, and I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve seen out here today.”

The annual event began in 2005 and has raised $100,000 for the United Way in those 10 years.
