WINNIPEG — Taxpayers will be on the hook for $35.3 million in repairs to Investors Group Field, for now.

Premier Greg Selinger hopes insurance will cover the cost of a loan guarantee to Triple B Stadium Inc. , who own the stadium, to repair cracked concrete and drainage issues that have plagued the structure since it opened in 2013.

Selinger said he expects once the lawsuits before the courts are settled, insurance money will cover the repairs.

“I’m an optimist.” said Selinger, “What I’m comfortable with is everyone took out the proper insurance against these potential risks that can occur when you build a big facility like this.”

Manitobans may never know what went wrong with the stadium, or who’s at fault.

Opposition Leader Brian Pallister repeated his call for a provincial audit into the stadium construction Tuesday.

“Manitobans are forced to bare the burden of all these mistakes.”

But he couldn’t offer how he would fix the problem if his party is elected next Spring.
