SkyTrain service continued as normal on Sunday following a frustrating night for transit passengers.
Service on TransLink’s Expo Line was delayed for two hours Saturday night because of a power surge, stranding thousands of riders, many of whom were heading to a Vancouver Canucks game at Rogers Arena.
The delay began around 6:15 p.m. as 12 trains on the Expo Line suddenly stopped between stations.
At first, the entire line was shut down, but after about an hour service was restored between Edmonds and King George stations.
A bus bridge ran between Edmonds and Waterfront stations.
“Bus operators were called into work, and 13 additional buses were quickly put in place across the system. Approximately 3,200 people boarded these extra buses between SkyTrain stations last night,” said TransLink in a statement.
“As soon as service goes down, TransLink works safely and quickly to get things running again and to make sure that back up service is in place to get people where they need to go. It’s an ‘all hands on deck” recovery effort.”
TransLink had attendants drive the affected trains manually to the station.
Service was restored around 8:15 p.m.
