MONTREAL – Major repair work began on the Champlain Bridge Friday evening, leading to numerous detours leading to and from the South Shore.
The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) announced that modular trusses will be installed under the bridge to support the edge girders and ensure safe passage for commuters until the new Champlain Bridge opens.
Two modular trusses will be installed under the auxiliary girders that straddle Highway 132 in Brossard, causing the following road closures and detours:
- Complete closure of Highway 132 in Brossard in both directions under the bridge (until Sunday morning)
- Closure of two Montreal-bound lanes on the bridge (until Saturday end of afternoon)
- Closure of two Montreal-bound lanes on the bridge during the night of Saturday to Sunday for tensioning
- Closure of two South Shore–bound lanes on the bridge (until Saturday evening)
- Complete closure of Westbound Marie-Victorin Boulevard under the bridge with a detour to maintain traffic flow
- Closure of entrances to Highway 132 West and East from the Champlain Bridge and A-10 West
- Right lane closed on A-15 North between exit 60 towards Verdun and exit 61 towards Atwater Avenue
- Complete closure of exit 61 towards Atwater Avenue from A-15 North

Most of the work is expected to take place on Saturday due to weather. The bridge should be re-opened to traffic as of 5:00 a.m. on Monday. A third and final work blitz is scheduled for the weekend of November 7-8.
