Suggestions pour in to honour former Expos great Gary Carter in Montreal

MONTREAL – The City of Montreal has received about 2,000 suggestions for how to honour the late baseball great Gary Carter.

Mayor Gerald Tremblay says there are many quality suggestions and the selection committee will try to make a decision quickly.

Carter’s family will also be involved in the choice.

The former Montreal Expos and New York Mets star died of brain cancer in February at age 57.

Montrealers had until March 31 to pitch ideas via the city’s website.

Possibilities include naming a street or park after Carter or building a monument in his name.

The head of Montreal’s Olympic Park has also said there would be a space honouring Carter and the Expos, who left town in 2004.
