OTTAWA – A Hamilton-based company is recalling a brand of peanut sauce because it may permit the growth of the bacteria that causes botulism.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Saigon Soul Food brand Saigon Peanut Sauce should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased.
The sauce, from Saigon Soul Food Inc., comes in 250 millilitre jars. The recall affects all units purchased up to and including Oct. 20.
The CFIA says there have been no reported illnesses linked to consuming this product.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.
Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis.
