Edmonton Oilers play home opener Thursday

EDMONTON – The Oilers play their home opener Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues.

That means it will be the first home game for Connor McDavid.

“It’s his dream,” said dad Brian McDavid. “It’s been his dream since he was five years old to play in the NHL. To watch him play, words can’t describe.”

“He doesn’t like to lose. That’s the hard part.”

WATCH: It’s the Oilers first home game at Rexall Place. That means extra excitement for the new players, including Connor McDavid. Kevin Karius is at Rexall with more.

It will also be the first game on home ice for local product Mark Letestu, who hails from Elk Point.

A decade later, Letestu will play his first game on home ice at Rexall Place – a dream come true for the Elk Point native who signed with the Oilers as a free agent in July.

WATCH: Former Alberta Golden Bears hockey coach Clare Drake turned 87 last week. His contributions to the game of hockey are endless, yet he has still not been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. St. Louis Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock, who is part of a group trying to persuade the powers that be to get Clare Drake into the Hall, weighed in on the subject Thursday.
