Saskatoon city hall closing early on election day

SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon will be closing early next week to allow its employees the statutory time to cast their ballot in the 42nd federal election. As a result, city hall will close at 4:30 p.m. CT on Monday, Oct. 19.

Employers must allow employees three consecutive hours to vote under the Canada Elections Act.

Voters in Saskatchewan will have from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time to select a candidate in their riding.

On Tuesday, a special committee meeting was held and councillors unanimously voted to offer free transit rides on election day.

Saskatoon’s website will not be impacted by the closure next week. The city’s leisure centres, golf courses, zoo and landfill will be open at regular operating hours.
