Calgary man arrested in connection with fatal southeast crash

Police released the name of the man charged in one of three fatal crashes that took place Sunday night in the span of an hour and a half.

Amandeep Singh Dhillon, 30, of Calgary was charged with one count of impaired driving causing death, three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

His first court appearance was scheduled for this morning.

Charges were laid after a woman in her 70s was killed Sunday in a head-on crash at the 100 block of 17th Avenue S.E.

Police say at around 9:30 p.m. a pickup truck was heading west on 17th Avenue when it veered into oncoming traffic into the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on with another pickup truck near.
The female passenger of the eastbound truck died at the scene.

The male driver, also in his 70s, was injured as well as two children sitting in the back seat.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate two other fatal crashes.

At about 9 p.m. a man in his early 20s was struck and killed by a commercial bus while walking along Highway 1 westbound just west of Valley Ridge Boulevard N.W.
