Ryan Messere surveys the damage to the door that gave thieves access to his non-profit bike club’s storage units.
“There’s probably at least anywhere between five and ten thousand dollars’ worth of gear stolen out of there,” said Messere.
A concrete boulder now guards the gate, but sometime overnight Friday the Kamloops BMX Club was pillaged. Five specialized bikes worth up to $800 each and the PA system were among the items stolen.

Also gone was the start box device that triggers the starting gate to open for racers, a big setback for the non-profit bike club that runs weekly races for kids and adults.
The thieves also stole about $1,000 in “stickies,” aluminum stickers they give out to kids who participate in races.
The Kamloops BMX Club season is done for the year, so Messere says they will use the off-season to regroup.
The club had planned to expand their facility, but now have to focus their resources on replacing the stolen items.
“We just started rebuilding the club…asking more and more people to come out and ride to try and get our funds up so we could start getting the buildings complete.
“It just sucks because now we basically have to start from scratch.”
Messere said the club is thinking of setting up a GoFundMe page to help with the rebuild.
