Saskatoon Contacts claim provincial title

The Saskatoon Contacts claimed the provincial title against the Prince Albert Mintos with a 2 – 1 victory at Schroh Arena on Friday.

Bryton Sayers of the Prince Albert Mintos opened up scoring with a goal twenty-three seconds into the first period.

Contact, Reid Gardiner tied the game up in the third period with a goal on Mintos goalie, Tyrell King, who went on to make 30 saves in the game.

With 6:54 left in the third, Dawson Leedahl scored the game-winning goal for the Saskatoon Contacts.

Contacts took game one of the best of five final series with a score of 5 -1. The Mintos answered back with a shutout in game two on Monday. Game three was held at Art Hauser Centre Arena in Prince Albert where the Contacts took a 2 – 1 lead in the series.

The Saskatoon Contacts finished at the top of the standings in the regular season and have appeared in the SMAAAHL provincial championship final the last 3 seasons.

The team will head to Virden, Manitoba to play at the Telus Cup Western Regionals which will be held March 29th to April 1st. The winner will represent the west region at the 2012 Telus Cup in Leduc, Alberta.

The Saskatoon Contacts won the Midget AAA National Championship in 2005 against the host team in Gatineau, Quebec.
