UPDATE: Inmate back in custody after escaping from Saskatchewan Penitentiary

A search is on for a prisoner who escaped from the minimum security unit at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert. Hector Thomas Bird, 23, was discovered missing during a head count Monday at 9:30 p.m. local time.

Correctional Service of Canada staff contacted Prince Albert police and RCMP. A warrant has been issued for Bird’s arrest.

Bird is currently serving a three-year sentence for sexual assault, sexual interference and failing to comply with a probation order.

He is five-foot seven, 117 pounds with a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bird is asked to contact their local police detachment.
