REGINA – The city’s first annual International Film Festival kicked off Friday at the Conexus Arts Centre.
RIFFA, as the festival will be known, started with a question and answer event featuring numerous actors Friday morning.
Organizers say the film industry is growing locally, with two movies being shot here last year.
This year, four films are being shot in the Queen City, including Chokeslam, Adventurers Club, Archie and a top secret movie coming up soon.
Associate director, Dawn Bird, said she can’t release the name of the new film just yet.
Bird said there’s plenty of reasons for people to get behind a local film festival, “Everybody has seen a film here and there and entertainment is such a huge part of our society. The fact that people can be encouraged to create their own content and have others see it is a huge reward.”
Screening of eight different films gets underway at 8 p.m. Friday, with a large award show taking place Saturday night.
