Officer’s act of kindness caught on video

While most videos of police contacting citizens usually don’t go well, one particular interaction caught on camera ended with a hug.

Deputy Constable Felix Barrigan and his partner stopped a man who was asking for money in a busy, dangerous intersection in Houston, Texas.

“When we approached him he was crying from the get-go, I guess he had thought he was in trouble. He seemed misplaced, hurt” Barrigan told KHOU News.

The man told officers he needed $49 to get back to his family in Seattle.

“[I’ve] been through tough times, we’ve all been through it in life and I feel like that was his time and he just needed some help.”

Barrigan then went back to the squad car and got a hundred dollar bill and handed to the man.

“You could tell the emotion in his face quickly changed to tears of joy,” Barrigan said.

Barrigan had no idea that the whole encounter was being caught on video over this past weekend until his superiors contacted him to tell him his kind act had been caught on video and sent into KHOU News by a viewer.

He told KHOU News “it felt good to watch it again and go through the whole scenario again.”
